NATIONAL NEGOTIATIONS CONTINUED

The deadline for national contract negotiations has been extended for an additional week. All provisions of the 2010-15 contract will remain in full force and effect until a new contract is reached.
President Mark Dimondstein said: " During negotiations, we made progress on many important work-floor issues. But in the end, management scuttled the prospect of reaching a deal before the deadline by insisting on a premanent, lower pay scale and reduced benefits for future career employees as well as givebacks in pay and benefits for current career workers".
President Dimondstein said the support of APWU members and our allies has had an important effect on negotiations. He urges every member to stay involved and keep the momentum going.
If a negotiated settlement is not reached the next step would be mediation, then interest arbitration. If this way is needed it could be up to a year before a new contract is awarded.
