As the Postal Service continues to struggle both financially and operationally, Congress seems uninterested in finding a solution that would keep the USPS the national treasure it is.
There are four resolutions active in the House of Representatives that could positively affect the future of the Postal Service and it's employees, however none seem close to being made into law.
HR 54 would restore service standards to what they were on July 1, 2012. This would ensure that overnight delivery would be maintained.
HR 784 is another resolution that would protect overnight delivery.
HR 28 would maintain door-to-door delivery to all busninesses and home addresses.
HR 12 mandates six day delivery.
Ohio's members in the House of Representatives are not, at this writing, very active in supporting any of these resolutions.
In fact, the signatures of Steve Chabot (R-1), Brad Wenstrup (R-2), Jim Jordan (R-4), Bob Latta (R-5), Bill Johnson (R-6), Bob Gibbs (R-7), John Boehner (R-8), Mike Turner (R-10), Pat Tiberi (R-12), Steve Stivers (R-15), and Jim Renacci (R-16) do not appear on any of the resolutions.
Joyce Beatty (D-3) supports HR 12
Marcy Kaptur (D-9) supports all four resolutions (thank-you)
Marcia Fudge (D-11) supports HR 784
Tim Ryan (D-13) supports HR 54, HR 784 and HR 12
David Joyce (R-14) supports HR 54, HR 28 and HR 12
We still need to be contacting our elected officials and urging them to sign on to support these resolutions. We simply cannot give up and let postal management privatize the USPS. Make a call today and tell your congressperson to support these resolutions.
