Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown, along with 28 colleagues has written to Postmaster General Donahoe urging the USPS to delay consolidation of 82 mail processing facilities nationally.
There are four sites in Ohio slated for consolidation in 2015: Toledo, Akron, Youngstown and Dayton.
Sherrod said: "The postal service fulfills an important function in everyday life. Homebound seniors rely on USPS for delivering prescription drugs, small businesses ship products to customers around the country, rural communities stay connected through the mail, and families across the country rely on mail to manage their households. That is why iit's vital that the USPS take adequate steps to review these consolidations and their effects on American consumers".
Senator Brown has long been involved in the fight to save the USPS co-sponsoring several pieces of legislation to bring about postal reform. However, Congress has never been able to reach agreement on any type of reform and postal consumers have waited more than 5 years for our legislators to do anything to save our postal service.
