Last night(August 20) the Lake Geuaga Area Local and President Tom Benson sponsored a meeting in Mentor with Congressman David Joyce. Mr. Joyce has coauthored a letter circulating in Congress that would include language in the FY 2015 Continuing Resolution to put a one-year moratorium on any mail processing plant consolidations. We are urging all members and viewers of this website to immediately contact their representative and ask they sign on to this letter.
Also in attendance last night were APWU Legislative Director John Marcotte, NBA Randy Downard, Ohio Letter Carrier President John Dyce, NALC NBA Dan Noll, officers from the Akron and Youngstown locals, other postal unions and even some management organizations. The host local did an exceptional job of preparing and running the meeting. We sincerely thank them for their hospitality.
The importance of this letter and it's companion in the Senate that was signed by over 50 Senators cannot be over-stated. If a one-year moratorium is included in the Continuing Resolution and the USPS complies, that would mean Congress would have another year to pass meaningful postal reform and provide the USPS with stability and new areas of revenue. It should also protect overnight delivery standards.
PLEASE heed this message and contact your congressional representative immediately.
Terry Grant, President OPWU AFL-CIO
